[docker, misc] feat: add a uv rocm extra and build the ROCm image from uv.lock - #1269
SkyHeroesS wants to merge 9 commits into
Conversation
…m uv.lock The ROCm image layered pip installs over rocm/primus:v26.4 because uv.lock only described the CUDA and Ascend stacks. Add a `rocm` extra that locks torch 2.12.0+rocm7.14.0 and its ROCm runtime wheels (gfx942 / gfx950) from AMD's release index, and build docker/rocm from `uv sync --extra rocm` in a fresh venv, as docker/cuda does with `gpu`. flash-attn and aiter have no ROCm wheels, so the image builds them from source at the commits rocm/primus:v26.4 ships. torch, torchvision, torchaudio and the CPU torchcodec use direct wheel URLs: they carry per-extra overrides, and an index source on an overridden package conflicts with npu's pytorch index. The runtime wheels are listed in the extra because uv routes only direct dependencies to an index, and the sdist-only `rocm` meta-package gets static metadata because its setup.py probes the build machine's GPU.
…c advice A plain `uv sync` in a mounted checkout ignores the image's venv and creates a fresh `.venv`, so document `uv sync --active --inexact --extra rocm` instead. Check the finished venv with `uv pip check`: aiter's setup.py tries to reinstall triton with whatever pip is on PATH, and torch pins its triton exactly. Also name causal-conv1d among the source-built packages, explain why the editable install matters in the image, and drop the stale validated commit.
Without --frozen, `uv sync --active --inexact --extra rocm` re-verifies the lock first, which downloads every extra's direct-URL wheels (the image sets UV_NO_CACHE, so on every run). With --frozen it only re-points the editable checkout and keeps the source-built packages.
FLA 0.4.1's Triton causal_conv1d is not bit-exact across channel slices on ROCm: test_qwen3_5_gated_deltanet_ulysses fails 17-18 of its 72 depthwise slicing cases in the uv image, and all of them pass with 0.5.1, the version the previous ROCm image shipped. Pin gpu to its current 0.4.1 so the newer FLA does not pull the CUDA environment along.
📝 Walkthrough

These came over from the pip-based image and no longer hold for the uv one: - causal-conv1d: nothing in VeOmni imports the package; GatedDeltaNet uses FLA's Triton causal_conv1d (the `fla` op slot). - torch_shm_manager chmod: the release torch wheel already ships it 0755 (only the June nightly did not). - FLA_TILELANG=0: the rocm extra has no tilelang, and FLA only enables its TileLang backend when tilelang imports. - apt ffmpeg/git: rocm/primus:v26.4 already ships both. - $ROCM_PATH/lib64 and GPU_ARCHS=native: the directory does not exist, and native is both the base image's value and aiter's default. The no-Docker install section now lists its prerequisites: /dev/kfd and /dev/dri access, and a C compiler for Triton's kernel launchers.
The FLA pin comment now states what fails (the Ulysses test asserts a bit-exact sliced conv) rather than implying training depends on it, and the static metadata for the `rocm` meta-package drops the `devel` extra, which nothing requests (the rocm extra lists rocm-sdk-devel directly).

Include the dev group in the ROCm image re-sync command because the configured default groups do not select it. Give ROCm stack updates their own AMD release index lookup and rocm-extra validation path instead of falling through to the CUDA wheel source and gpu-extra command.
