Ossify is an open-source release engineering toolkit packaged in two skill variants:
- a Claude Code version for slash-command style workflows
- a Codex version for Codex skill-based workflows
Its purpose is to transform a personal or internal project into a polished, GitHub-ready open-source repository by auditing security issues, cleaning personal hardcoding, generating missing project files, and guiding the final release workflow.
- Audits projects for secret leakage, tracked
.envfiles, hardcoded paths, and vendor lock-in - Generates or improves
README.md,LICENSE,.gitignore, andCONTRIBUTING.md - Produces shields.io badge snippets
- Verifies release hygiene before GitHub push
- Optionally generates project logos and social preview assets
Location:
Use this version when working inside Claude Code and invoking a skill such as /ossify.
Location:
Use this version when working inside Codex and installing the skill into ~/.codex/skills.
Both variants rely on the same core Python tooling:
audit.py— security and release-readiness auditbadges.py— badge markdown generationgit_check.py—.gitignoreand secret-leak verificationlogo_gen.py— AI logo generation
Copy the Claude version into the appropriate Claude skill location:
cp claude-skill/ossify.md /path/to/your-project/.claude/skills/If the Python helpers are needed as part of the workflow, keep the repository available locally and update paths in the skill if necessary.
Copy the Codex version into the user skill directory:
cp -R codex-skill ~/.codex/skills/ossify-codexAfter installation, restart Codex or reopen the skill list if the new skill does not appear immediately.
An example config is provided at:
This can be copied to .ossify.yaml in a target project and filled in before running the workflow.

This shows the type of project transformation Ossify is designed to perform.
This repository intentionally keeps the Claude and Codex variants side by side, while moving shared project-level documentation to the repository root.
