Do you have an svg? If not @gregswinehart can help you out 😄 |

LITERALLY EMBEDDING THE PNG IN THE SVG DOESN'T COUNT |

LOL, THANKS FOR REVIEWING MY AGENT BEFORE I DO 🤦 |

Hmm, now that I'm looking more closely, I can see why we never did a real SVG. Seems it would take a massive SVG to get the same lighting/shading effect. Maybe @gregswinehart can work magic, but maybe this one isn't |
How committed to this stance are we? Claude noticed that there are already a few hexes that in the repo that do this (not naming names, I'm not a snitch) and I followed that pattern for #143 and #144 (although I think an SVG for chatlas can eventually be added here). I can also say that I converted a gen-AI-assisted hex to SVG when I made the btw hex sticker (#142) and it was a highly manual process that ultimately took a full day or more of work. |
I had this in my files? Not sure where it was in the process, but it's all vectors. |
@gadenbuie I know... it's a huge pain. I bet we could get pretty far with embedded PNGs in SVGs, honestly. But.. It's primarily a problem when it comes to print. Sometimes we might want the hexes to print well on something really big. I mean... If it was slightly blurry due to pixelation that's not the absolute worst thing, but I definitely wouldn't have put a PNG on this:
The other place where it's really necessary is for screen printing shirts. If it's going to be on a shirt, you'd really need to have it in vectors. I'm with you, I definitely think we should be using AI to illustrate hexes. I'm happy to turn them into vectors if needed. It's usually slightly differently than the original, but that way everybody wins. |
