This change should greatly reduce the bandwidth requirements of older state repositories.

I've successfully used this for my own use case using the CLI wrapper mode and HTTP remote. I'm not sure what kind of tests the repository runs.

Also, for reference, this is in response to this issue I opened today: #48

Thank you for your contribution! This repository currently runs no tests 😅
I'm gonna try to allocate some time next week to test this locally.

Thanks! I hope it works. I've been running it consistently for the past few days without issue. I haven't tried stand-alone mode, but if my understanding of git is correct, it shouldn't be an issue since this repo just moves forward. And I'll try to find time to give it a go on my end and catch any issues.

That really speaks to the architectural prowess y'all have put into this project! I haven't had any bugs. (knock on wood)

Sorry, just wanted to update that I didn't forget. Trying to get another project off the ground over here right now https://github.com/plumber-cd/argocd-autoscaler, and it's taking me a little longer than I estimated. Early next week should be able to take a look.

No worries. I haven't had my own opportunity to test the daemon side of things. To allay concerns, it personally isn't holding me back from anything. I've been running my own patched version.
