Disclaimer: I do not use PlanetarySystemStacker, but I was made aware that there is a desire for an easier installation process. This prompted me to create a macOS application which acts as a launcher for PlanetarySystemStacker. I did not modify the original PlanetarySystemStacker project.

If you encounter issues, reach out and I will do my best to fix them. However, if there is a problem with the PlanetarySystemStacker application, I am unable to assist because I did not write, nor do I maintain, that project.

This is a simple macOS wrapper application for launching PlanetarySystemStacker. The macOS application will exectute the pss.sh script, which will download any necessary dependencies and launch the PlanetarySystemStacker application.

After downloading the .zip file from this repository, place the unzipped directory in your preferred location. You may then place the PlanetarySystemStackerLauncher.app file in your Applications directory. To launch the application, double-click on PlanetarySystemStacker.app. It is likely that you will see a macOS prompt stating that the application was not opened because macOS could not verify the app is free of malware. This is because I did not attempt to make the project available via App Store. Because I do not own the rights to the PlanetarySystemStacker project, Apple will not allow this project to be made available by me on App Store. CleanShot 2024-11-14 at 12 28 31@2x To resolve this, perform the following steps:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Navigate to Privacy & Security
  3. Navigate to the Security section (scroll to the bottom of the list)
  4. Click Open Anyway CleanShot 2024-11-14 at 12 32 42@2x
  5. Click Open Anyway in the next prompt CleanShot 2024-11-14 at 12 33 23@2x
  6. Enter your password or perform biometric authentcation if prompted

I included the script in the repository so that you can see what steps occur during the installation and launch procedures. The script was heavily inspired by this post from mdolenga in a Cloudy Nights thread.

If you prefer to discard the macOS application which comes bundled in the download, you can use the pss.sh script to launch PlanetarySystemStacker. Simply rename pss.sh to pss.command. Then, you can double-click on pss.command when you want to launch PlanetarySystemStacker. If you choose to use the bundled PlanetarySystemStackerLauncher.app, then you can place it into your dock for easy access.
