Tool details

Tool name: ByteTools
Homepage: https://bytetools.io/
Pricing tier: Completely Free (hosted; no account or paid plan)
Category: DevTools
Description: Free browser utilities for JSON formatting, JWT inspection, regex testing and file hashing. Tool inputs are processed locally; no account required.

Adds the entry at the bottom of the free-tier table in _partials/readme-data.md, with its site reference at the bottom of the file, as requested by the contribution guide. Generated README/category files are left to the existing build workflow.

Checklist

  • Read the contribution guidelines and code of conduct.
  • Checked the existing list, queue, and no-go list; ByteTools is not listed.
  • Checked Awesome Selfhosted; ByteTools is not listed there.
  • Uses an existing pricing tier and category.
  • Provides an embeddable API, CLI, SDK, or drop-in app integration — see scope note below.
  • Verified the live tools and supporting documentation are maintained.
  • Adds a distinct tool entry, with the overlap described below for maintainer review.
  • Parsed successfully with the project's actions/organize.js and actions/index.js, run locally against the proposed source.

Scope and affiliation

This is an affiliated submission for ByteTools. It is a browser workflow helper, not an API or SDK. It overlaps with the formatter and utility suites already listed, so please assess whether it meets the list's integration criteria.

A useful accompanying resource is the file-checksum guide, which provides a downloadable five-byte sample and expected SHA-256 so readers can reproduce the result in a browser or with their own command-line tool. The suite also includes example-driven calculators and guides. Local processing does not mean the website makes no network requests; the privacy policy explains delivery and optional analytics.

Maintenance and validation

The tools and reviewed examples were updated on October 18, 2026. Review standards and corrections describe how examples are checked and link to the public issue tracker.

Local validation confirmed the generated README contains ByteTools exactly once in the free tier, the category output includes it under DevTools, and the homepage reference resolves. No project scripts or workflows were changed.
