Symbol Art is a type of image different from the common ones seen on the web like JPEGs and PNGs. They are composed of symbols (squares, triangles, circles, etc.) instead of pixels. This makes it a bit more challenging to create art since you will be moving symbols around to create images as opposed to using brush strokes like in photoshop and similar tools.

This editor contains a helper image feature to use as guidance to place know where to place which symbol where and what colors to use in order to recreate the image you chose using symbols instead. Note that the helper image is a tool to help you, but it is not part of the art you are creating.

Throughout the usage of the app, you will mainly find yourself adding symbols, changing shapes and colors, as well as moving layers of symbols in the side view of the symbol art to change viewing priority. It takes a bit of practice, but the editor was designed to greatly reduce the effort you need to make nice Symbols Arts or tweak existing ones.

Once you are done, do not forget to save! Use the button in the top left dropdown menu to open the project settings screen and save your project as SAML (if you want to save your project to work on later), or SAR (if you want to import the file in PSO2).
