Diagnosed. Run 39726980327 failed in the release job at the Run GoReleaser step:

output=go: go.mod requires go >= 1.26.10 (running go 1.26.9; GOTOOLCHAIN=local)

Root cause: #24524 bumped go.mod to go 1.26.10, but .github/workflows/release.yml still pins Go 1.26.9 (×2), and GOTOOLCHAIN=local forbids auto-upgrade, so GoReleaser's go build hook fails before any artifact is produced.

The fix already exists: #24528 bumps every 1.26.9 workflow pin (including both in release.yml) to 1.26.10. All its checks are green; it is waiting only on maintainer lgtm/approve (tide). Once #24528 merges, the next nightly should pass — same failure as #24538.

Root cause identified: this nightly release failed in GoReleaser's go mod tidy before-hook with:

go: go.mod requires go >= 1.26.10 (running go 1.26.9; GOTOOLCHAIN=local)

(run 39726980327, job 119654136575). release.yml still pins Go 1.26.9 while go.mod (bumped in #24524 for GO-2026-6809) requires >= 1.26.10, and GOTOOLCHAIN=local blocks auto-upgrade.

The fix is already open and CI-green: PR #24528 bumps all 9 stale 1.26.9 pins (including both in release.yml). It is parked stage/085-needs-decision awaiting maintainer approval — once merged, the next nightly should succeed and this issue can close per its closure policy.

Same root cause also broke tonight's nightly test suite (#24541 #24542 #24543 #24544).

Root cause confirmed: go.mod requires go >= 1.26.10 (merged in #24524) but this workflow still pins GO_VERSION: '1.26.9'. With GOTOOLCHAIN=local that makes every invocation fail before any test/release step runs:

This is the same shared-CI incident as #24538/#24539/#24541/#24542/#24543/#24544 — not an independent regression. The fix is already open in #24528 (bumps all 9 occurrences across 8 workflow files, including this one) and parked stage/085-needs-decision pending a maintainer OK to touch .github/workflows/**.

No new PR needed here — once #24528 merges, this should go green on the next run.
