Backend: Static JSON vs. Open Source DBs (free/self-hosted)

I am a student developer

Currently, the MVP is built using Firebase (Auth & Firestore). This was chosen for speed of development and the free tier, as I currently have a $0.00 budget for server hosting.

I have received valid feedback that relying on a proprietary backend (Google Firebase) contradicts the project's mission of sovereignty. I agree with this in principle.

I need the community's advice on the best path for v1.

• Option A: The Static JSON (No Backend)
• Option B: The Open Source (Supabase, etc.)
