Discuss and test the goal-based personae created in #202 with internal and community stakeholders before declaring them a useful (though admittedly evolving) tool for orienting our future documentation efforts -- at which point, persona documents should be easily accessed from top level of docs repo and repo readme.

NOTE: Unified test plan for all our Q3 2019 OKR deliverables is in #207.

STATUS UPDATE, 20 AUGUST 2019
(primarily for the benefit of @momack2 while she's away)

The PL docs task force (@jessicaschilling, @ericronne, @cwaring, @terichadbourne) met today to review our initial draft of our six goal-based personae. Video of the meeting is here. While we're all feeling optimistic about the overall solidity of these personae, we want to take a few steps before launching them:

  1. The team agrees to review the Mural document and leave proposed changes in sticky notes before next Wednesday (28 Aug)
  2. In the meantime, we've added a basic persona validation question in our front-page quiz usability testing under Quiz: Set up and pilot remote usability testing #247; those testers may also be a good source for future conversations specifically related to personae
  3. After 28 Aug, make any revisions necessary and then collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to have more discussions about persona validity, and revise with an intent to launch. Those stakeholders include ...
  • Individuals sourced via discuss.ipfs.io and PL's community (public) Slack channels
  • Interested representatives of our engaged external collaborators (particularly to discuss their learning curve in IPFS concepts related to their persona(e)
  • Potential for an in-person Colorado IPFS meetup in collaboration with @nukemandan
  • Folks from the offline-first community, as engaged via an issue in the LOCOL repo and/or a call to action in the LOCOL monthly call, plus posting in the Offline First Slack #general channel
  • Individuals sourced within IPFS newsletter, if in need of more folks?

Important note: Personae are never "final" even under the best of circumstances, and we're intending to continue to iterate on these on an ongoing basis as we learn more about our core user groups and the things they're trying to learn and achieve. This stage of the persona effort isn't intended to generate a "north star" around which we align all our work, but to give us a scaffolding for future guidance. With this in mind, we're not so much searching for a "definition of done" as we are a "definition of useful" -- at which case we launch them, use them as guidance, and refine as necessary! 😄

Had excellent discussions with folks at Textile, Audius and qri last week. Incorporated a number of their suggestions (particularly more clearly delineating primary/secondary personae and how they overlap/interact) into the revised Mural doc. Also added several actionable issues to this repo pertaining to docs in general that were discovered during these discussions.

Note that we'll want to continue to iterate on the developer primary persona - see #275 - to determine if we can make it more useful by splitting it along a few different axes. This came up a few times in interviews, but the lines for bifurcation weren't too clear between different interviewers, so it's worth its own effort in Q4. In the meantime, we've got sturdy, well-vetted personae that we can use to help prioritize future docs work against -- so calling this issue complete. Thanks to all!
