Potential Impacts

This page captures potential negative impacts of an AI preferences vocabulary that the Working Group should be aware of.

1. An accessibility tool that uses AI to read textual content might refuse to process it if a negative preference is associated
2. A local summarisation tool incorporated into an operating system, browser, or other program might refuse to process it if a negative preference is associated
   • A user downloads an asset (e.g. a PDF) that is not available on the open internet, and then wants to use a tool to interact with it.
3. A Web search service that uses AI as part of its operation might stop indexing content that has an associated negative preference
4. Content is presented in a language that a user does not understand and they wish to use AI tools to translate that content, which is impeded by a preference to deny use in AI.
