# Central Command Department -> Internal Affairs

## Overview

The "Central Command" department on the station should be renamed to "Internal Affairs".
This intended to make the perception of the department better match its function.

## Background

According to two player polls held on the Discord server, we found that [Captain players feel that they will face admin punishment if they go against a CC VIP](https://discord.com/channels/1276640157511979008/1297622994222321684/1498356678813548636),
and similarly, [players of heads of staff roles feel like CC VIPs have more power than them](https://discord.com/channels/1276640157511979008/1297622994222321684/1498356751739785226).

The intended purpose of CC VIPs is to create conflict through enforcement of Standard Operating Procedure,
which is intentionally inefficient and intrusive.

Instead, these polls suggest that players *aren't* pushing back against CC VIPs, on account of fear of
out-of-character consequences, even though in-character conflict is the intended function of these roles.

It is currently soft consensus amongst Funky's leadership that this is a result of the branding of "Central Command".
On other forks, "Central Command" is solely the in-character facade of admin intervention.

As Funky is rarely a player's first point of contact with the SS14 ecosystem, this implicit association with
out-of-character authority is something we can reasonably expect an average player to have.

Therefore, the average player will see that some characters belong to "Central Command", and infer (consciously or otherwise)
that these characters have special out-of-character protections, when they do not, and in fact, the opposite is generally desired by admins.

## Features to be added

The on-station Central Command department, in any place it is mentioned in the game, will be changed to Internal Affairs.
This rebrand should clear up a lot of the confusion with the department's place in the game.

On the crew manifest, the Internal Affairs section should display under the Command section.

A new Internal Affairs access should be added, to replace Central Command access on Internal Affairs roles.

The Nanotrasen Representative will be renamed to Internal Affairs Executive (IAE/IAX), clarifying the relationship between the role and its
subordinates, while also doing away with a very unfortunate acronym.

Internal Affairs Agents and the Magistrate will retain their current names.

NTRep/IAE and Magistrate clothing should no longer be primarily green, in order to nullify Central Command associations.
