Adds new configurable option attemptDeadlineSeconds to v2 scheduled function configuration.

Per Cloud Scheduler docs

The deadline for job attempts. If the request handler does not respond by this deadline then the request is cancelled and the attempt is marked as a DEADLINE_EXCEEDED failure. The failed attempt can be viewed in execution logs. Cloud Scheduler will retry the job according to the RetryConfig.

For HTTP targets, the default is 3 minutes. The deadline must be in the interval [15 seconds, 30 minutes].

This option is useful for customer migrating from v1 scheduled function. V1 Scheduled function relied on pubsub for event delivery, which defaults to 10m ack deadline (~= attempt deadline).

  export const myScheduledFunction = onSchedule({
    schedule: "every 5 minutes",
    attemptDeadlineSeconds: 300,
    retryCount: 3
  }, (event) => {
    // Your function logic
  });

Adds attemptDeadlineSeconds to ScheduleOptions and ManifestEndpoint. Updates onSchedule to pass attemptDeadlineSeconds to the manifest. Adds tests for attemptDeadlineSeconds.

Summary of Changes

Hello @taeold, I'm Gemini Code Assist1! I'm currently reviewing this pull request and will post my feedback shortly. In the meantime, here's a summary to help you and other reviewers quickly get up to speed!

This pull request enhances the v2 scheduled functions by introducing a new attemptDeadlineSeconds configuration option. This feature allows developers to define the maximum execution time for a scheduled job attempt, aligning the function's behavior more closely with Cloud Scheduler's capabilities. It also provides a smoother transition for users migrating from v1 scheduled functions, which previously offered similar control through Pub/Sub's acknowledgment deadlines.

Highlights

  • New Configuration Option: Introduced attemptDeadlineSeconds for v2 scheduled functions, allowing users to specify the maximum duration for a job attempt.
  • Cloud Scheduler Integration: This new option directly maps to the attemptDeadlineSeconds parameter in Cloud Scheduler, providing more granular control over job execution.
  • Migration Aid: Facilitates migration for users coming from v1 scheduled functions, which had a similar concept through Pub/Sub's ack deadline.
  • Default and Range: The default deadline is 3 minutes (180 seconds), with configurable values ranging from 15 seconds to 30 minutes.

Code Review

This pull request introduces support for attemptDeadlineSeconds in v2 scheduled functions, which is a valuable addition for users migrating from v1. The implementation is solid, touching all the necessary parts from type definitions to tests. I have a couple of suggestions to enhance maintainability and improve the developer experience through better documentation.
