For efficient support of IDE and AI agents , an LSP (language server provided) implementation for ErgoScript, scripting language for programmable money , would be helpful. These days it seems not that hard to vibe-code most of it also, so could be doable over the hackathon

The implementation is deliberately scoped as a proof-of-concept and does not integrate with the ErgoScript compiler or interpreter. A demo and usage guide are included.

Hey team!

I'm excited to submit this LSP implementation for ErgoScript. This has been a challenging but rewarding project to work on during the Unstoppable Hackathon at LNMIIT 2025.

The implementation includes a complete language server with all the essential IDE features - autocomplete, real-time error checking, hover documentation, and syntax highlighting. I've also added code snippets for common ErgoScript patterns to help speed up development.

What I'm particularly proud of:

• Built a full parser from scratch (lexer + recursive descent parser + AST)
• Implemented type inference for ErgoScript's type system
• Created modular LSP feature providers for maintainability
• Zero compilation errors and zero security vulnerabilities
• Comprehensive documentation with usage examples

To try it out, just open the ergoscript-lsp folder in VS Code, press F5, and open any of the example contracts. You'll see autocomplete suggestions, syntax highlighting, and error checking working in real-time.

I've tried to follow TypeScript and LSP best practices throughout. The code is well-structured with separate modules for parsing, type checking, and LSP features. All the ErgoScript built-ins, types, and context variables are properly defined with documentation.

I've created a minimal MVP implementation of ErgoScript LSP in a separate repository:

Features working:

• Syntax highlighting (TextMate grammar)
• Real-time diagnostics (syntax errors, unbalanced braces)
• Hover information (type info, documentation)
• Auto-completion (globals, functions, keywords)

This is a minimal viable implementation to demonstrate the foundation. Architecture is designed for future integration with existing SigmaParser, SigmaBinder, and SigmaTyper.

The current lack of advanced IDE tooling for ErgoScript imposes an unnecessary friction point on smart contract development. Developers currently lack real-time validation and intelligent assistance, slowing iteration cycles and increasing the potential for runtime errors.

This project addresses critical infrastructure needs by:

1. Directly Enhancing DX (Developer Experience): Providing a standardized Language Server to enable features like real-time diagnostics and auto-completion in all major IDEs (VS Code, IntelliJ, etc.).

2. Boosting Code Security & Quality: Instantly flagging common ErgoScript pitfalls and syntactic errors at the point of writing, significantly reducing post-deployment debugging.

My background is ideally suited for the successful and timely completion of this project due to my established experience in:

• Compiler/Language Engineering: Direct experience with Scala and JVM technologies, which are the foundation of the existing ErgoScript compiler. This enables rapid integration and understanding of the underlying language specification.

• Protocol Implementation: Practical experience implementing or utilizing the Language Server Protocol (LSP) or similar standard communication protocols (JSON-RPC), ensuring a clean and correct server implementation.

• Smart Contract Development: Familiarity with the unique constraints and environment of programmable money scripting languages (like ErgoScript/Sigma), allowing for the quick identification and prioritization of critical diagnostics.

4. 📝 Action Request and Commitment

I am confident in delivering the proposed MVP within the hackathon timeline by leveraging the existing ErgoScript libraries.

I respectfully request formal assignment of the "ErgoScript Language Server Protocol (LSP)" project for this event.

For IntelliJ, I suggest that you try https://github.com/redhat-developer/lsp4ij to integrate your language server.
You can integrate your lsp server with an IJ plugin by using LSP4IJ extension point or if you have not the skills to do that you can use settings, see doc at https://github.com/redhat-developer/lsp4ij/blob/main/docs/UserDefinedLanguageServer.md
