This was a project I made in my IST261 class where I used Eclipse to edit and run my java code. This was a semester long project that taught me how to create dictionaries and domain classifiers to group key words together, creating a responsive interface for users to ask a chatbot questions about the Gym.
My chatbot is a gym support chatbot that guides a person during their gym session. You should be able to ask your chatbot how to do a specific exercise, the amount of repetitions and sets for each exercise, and the amount of weight you should be able to do based on your height and weight. The point of this chatbot is to make more people comfortable with using gym equipment.
Creating a more customized interface for the user will allow the chatbot to give more helpful information. Utilizing available equipment, nutrition and hydration tips, form and technique feedback, and progress tracking are all ways to create a more advanced user experience allowing for a safer and more enjoyable gym experience for the user.
User: Hi, I’m new to the gym and I’m not sure how to use the leg press machine. Can you help? Chatbot: Of course! To use the leg press machine, follow these steps: Adjust the Seat: Sit down and adjust the seat so your knees are at a 90-degree angle when your feet are on the platform. Foot Placement: Place your feet shoulder-width apart on the platform. Starting Position: Push the platform away from you by extending your legs, but don't lock your knees. Perform the Exercise: Bend your knees to lower the platform back down, then push it up again. Start with 3 sets of 12-15 reps. If you’re unsure about the weight, it’s best to start light and increase gradually based on how you feel. User: Thanks! What weight should I start with? Chatbot: The weight depends on your fitness level. As a beginner, you might start with 50% of your body weight on the machine and adjust based on your comfort. For a more personalized recommendation, could you provide your height and weight?
User: How many sets and reps should I do for bicep curls? Chatbot: For bicep curls, a common recommendation is to perform 3 sets of 10-12 reps. Make sure to use a weight that challenges you but allows you to complete the reps with good form. Rest for about 60-90 seconds between sets. User: That sounds good. What if I’m trying to build muscle? Chatbot: If your goal is muscle building, you might focus on 4-6 sets of 6-8 reps with heavier weights. The lower rep range with higher weight helps in muscle growth, but make sure to maintain proper form to avoid injury.
User: I’m 5’8” and weigh 160 lbs. What weight should I use for the bench press? Chatbot: For the bench press, a good starting point is around 60-70% of your body weight. Given your weight, you might start with around 95-115 lbs on the barbell. Begin with lighter weights if you’re new to the exercise and gradually increase as you get stronger. Always make sure to warm up before lifting and consider having a spotter for safety. User: Got it, thanks! What if I want to increase weight later? Chatbot: As you get stronger, you can gradually increase the weight by about 5-10 lbs every 1-2 weeks, depending on how comfortable you are with your current weight. Listen to your body and make sure you're maintaining proper form to avoid injury.
