This PR is basically ganto#1 rebased on master. Since I started out basing my work on master I could just reuse that and cherry pick a few commits over. I also reverted one mechanical edit in tasks and added the command needed to make it to the TODO file. Note that this PR is not as comprehensive as ganto#1 and if #53 works out, ganto#1 could be merged more easily.
