Here's a draft README.md for your dog vision project, incorporating the requested elements and following Markdown best practices:

Dog Vision Demo

This project contains a Jupyter notebook for dog breed classification using machine learning techniques.

Contents

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure you have the following installed:

Environment Setup

For Apple Silicon

  1. Clone this repository:

    git clone https://github.com/yourusername/dog-vision-demo.git
    cd dog-vision-demo

  2. Create the conda environment:

    conda env create -f env-dog-vision-apple.yml

  3. Activate the environment:

    conda activate dog-vision-apple

For Windows/Linux PCs

  1. Clone this repository:

    git clone https://github.com/yourusername/dog-vision-demo.git
    cd dog-vision-demo

  2. Create the conda environment:

    conda env create -f env-dog-vision-pc.yml

  3. Activate the environment:

    conda activate dog-vision-pc

Data Preparation

The dog-vision-demo.ipynb notebook requires a specific dataset to run. Please follow these steps to prepare your data:

  1. Download the dog breed dataset from Kaggle's Dog Breed Identification competition.
  2. Extract the downloaded files into a data folder in the project directory.
  3. Ensure your data folder structure looks like this:
    data/
    ├── train/
    │ └── (training images)
    ├── test/
    │ └── (test images)
    ├── labels.csv
    └── sample_submission.csv

Running the Notebook

  1. Ensure you've activated the correct conda environment (dog-vision-apple or dog-vision-pc).

  2. Start Jupyter Notebook:

    jupyter notebook

  3. In the Jupyter interface, navigate to and open dog-vision-demo.ipynb.

  4. Run the cells in the notebook sequentially to execute the dog breed classification demo.

Alternative IDEs

While Jupyter Notebook is recommended, you can also run this notebook using:

To use these IDEs, open the project folder and select the appropriate conda environment as the kernel for the notebook.
