Looks like bitlash no longer maintained but, still, here is a pull request to add compatibility for ESP32 and also arduino 1.8 for arduino uno and teensy 3.1/3.2. This have been tested (compile/run) for the three boards.
I've also created a class Linenoise-Bitlash for ESP32 that use linenoise (a tiny readline()) as a frontend to Bitlash which provide line editing/history of linenoise and scripting (and more) from bitlash.
