Welcome to the parks-data-register wiki!

Vision

BC Park's data registers will provide a consistent, accurate, and accessible way of sharing data with the public. Unlike the current approach which has no source of truth, is difficult to manage, and is not openly shared, our product will standardize the way BC Parks stores, manages and shares foundational parks data with the public.

What are Data Registers

They are the solution that implements both governance and technical aspects of authoritative data sources:

  • They are corporate assets
  • Store Critical Data that has intrinsic value to the whole of government
  • Are the authoritative, best quality source of information about a specific thing
  • Are Minimum Viable Datasets (MVD), that can be linked to other data
  • Do not duplicate data held in other authoritative data sources
  • Contain raw data that is not transactional, derived, or statistical
  • They are part of an ecosystem of linked authoritative data
  • Aligned to accepted, simple definitions of concepts
  • They have a clear purpose

Benefits of Data Registers
