These instructions apply to all custom PCBs of this sensor network. For tutorials check out our Tutorials and Resources page

  • Order all components from BOM
  • Order PCBs and stencil
  • Print Eagle board layout enlarged
  • Mark identical components with the same color on printed board layout
  • Apply solder paste with stencil
  • Place component on PCB (start with small components, finish with large components)
  • Put PCB with components in reflow oven
  • Solder through-hole Molex connectors by hand

Main module

In the following are some tips regarding the assembly of the main module. For reference, we use the following orientation of the main module: sensor module pcb with wind rose for orientation

Connectors to Sensor Module

The pinout of the connectors to the sensor module are depicted below. Do not plug in the supply voltage jack of the main module while the 3-pin connector is in use. If the sensor module is externally powered it will create a short between the two supply voltages through "continuous V from SM" or "continuous V towards SM" pin. Only the 4-pin connector is necessary for periodic instantaneous measurements. For measurements at irregular time intervals, the 3-pin connector is necessary as well. In this case, the “Controlled SM Supply Voltage” pin does not have to be connected on the sensor module anymore, instead it can be supplied through “Continuous supply voltage towards SM”, or if the sensor module has a constant power source, then the communication module can be supplied through “Continuous supply voltage from SM”.

ISP Connector

Diode

The marking of the diode is pointing to the east as depicted below.

Oscillator

The orientation of the oscillator (Y1) does not matter.

LEDs

The green markings of the LEDs (L1, L2, L3) point to the east.

High Side Switch

The markings of the high side switch (U3) are barely visible. However, it should be placed as depicted below.
