Wrong Save file from Freegosy to RomM

What is the issue?

The wrong save file is being uploaded from Freegosy to RomM.

I just played Bank Heist (Atari 2600) and created a save state. Then quit RetroARch and hit Push Saves in Freegosy, but the file that was pushed to Bank Heist in RomM is a save file (not state) for Dragon Ball - Advanced Adventure (USA) [2026-09-01_08-34-24].srm.

The Atari 2600 did not have saves, so there shouldn't be a save game file (like the .srm). What I do have is a save state from Retroarch.

No idea how that file was associated with Bank Heist. I haven't even played Dragon Ball in a long time. The actual file in my Retroarch saves folder is from 23 October 2025.

A follow up on this one. I woke up the next day and saw this:

I did not play the game after the initial upload and did not try to upload again. I did leave Freegosy open on my Mac overnight though.

I'm not sure what the new Bank Heist [2026-09-01_11-54-17].zip file is. If it's the save state, why isn't in under states instead of saves?

When using Freegosy with RetroArch and the mGBA core, the downloaded save is placed in a different directory and uses a different filename than the local save expected by RetroArch.

For example, for Pokémon Emerald:

ROM:
Pokemon - Emerald Version (USA, Europe).gba

LocalSave (maked with freegosy retroarch):
~/.var/app/org.libretro.RetroArch/config/retroarch/saves/mGBA/Pokemon - Emerald Version.srm

PulledSave:
~/.var/app/org.libretro.RetroArch/config/retroarch/mGBA/Pokemon - Emerald Version (USA, Europe).srm

As you can see:

1. The local save is stored in:
   retroarch/saves/mGBA/

2. The downloaded save is placed in (wrong path i think):
   retroarch/mGBA/

3. The downloaded save filename:
   Pokemon - Emerald Version (USA, Europe).srm

   while the local save has a different (maked with freegosy retroarch, it dont use the name of the file rom to create a save o looking for a save):
   Pokemon - Emerald Version.srm

Expected behavior:
The downloaded save and creation save should be placed in the same path "~/.var/app/org.libretro.RetroArch/config/retroarch/saves/mGBA/" inside the saves with the some filename (file name with name same file rom but end with .srm)

In my case, I would expect the downloaded save to end up as:

~/.var/app/org.libretro.RetroArch/config/retroarch/saves/mGBA/Pokemon - Emerald Version.srm

I'm not sure I understand what you mean.

The file Freegosy should have uploaded to RomM under the Bank Heist game is here:

• /RetroArch/states/Stella/Bank Heist (USA).state

But instead, it uploaded this one:

• /RetroArch/saves/mGBA/Dragon Ball - Advanced Adventure (USA).srm

It should've only uploaded the Bank Heist (USA).state file and should have put it in the States section, not the Saves section.

A few hours later, it uploaded another file called Bank Heist [2026-09-01_11-54-17].zip also into the Saves section. I don't know why it uploaded it as a .zip file. And even more strange, if I download the Bank Heist [2026-09-01_11-54-17].zip that Freegosy uploaded to RomM under Bank Heist and uncompressed it, it turns out it's actually Dragon Ball - Advanced Adventure (USA).srm compressed and called Bank Heist [2026-09-01_11-54-17].zip.

So basically, Freegosy did this:

1. Uploaded a very old .srm of a different game.
2. Then, compressed that same incorrect .srm and zipped it, changed it's name to a different game, and uploaded that as well.
3. Meanwhile, it ignored the actual .state file for the game.

Tracked this down — there was a "last resort" fallback in the RetroArch save-matching logic that would grab any leftover save file sitting in the same core folder when nothing matched the current game by name, which is exactly how the Dragon Ball save ended up uploaded under Bank Heist. Removed that fallback entirely — it's much safer to find nothing than to upload the wrong file. Would be glad if you can check the pre-release!
