Minor fixes and adjustments

  • Add missing bacterium restrictions and a few other species corrections
  • Fix region definitions for galactic arms to accurately reflect what's shown in the codex
  • Ignore landing and takeoff events when ship is unpiloted

Release 1.1 adds the ability to parse EDSM data (once per jump) to fill in missing data.

This can happen if you close a session and resume or revisit a system. Not all data can be restored, but it'll help you see accurate genus/species predictions again.

Release 1.0

Main Features

Genera and Species Determinations

BioScan will parse all relevant system data to discern exactly which species can be present on any planet with biological signals. This includes all of these criteria:

  • Surface Gravity
  • Minimum and maximum surface temperature
  • Atmosphere
  • Volcanism
  • Body type
  • Main star type
  • Other body types in the system
  • Proximity to nebulae and guardian sectors
  • Galactic region

If it can narrow the options down to one species, that species is displayed, otherwise we show the available genera and a range of values for those species.

Once a planet is mapped, the list will filter down to the confirmed list of genera.

Analysis Progress and Info

Once you've begun your approach to a planet, the species breakdown will focus on that planet. You will see the detailed body type and gravity of the planet and a progress indicator for fully analyzed species.

As you begin to scan species, the scroll window will track your progress. You will get a distance tracker for your samples so you can tell (within a few meters error) if you're able to take another scan. Once the species is analyzed, the value is added to the system summary and marked as complete. Using your composition scanner can confirm species while you work on analyzing another. Progress will be reset if you scan another species before completing the previous one.

Quick Info

A compact display of all bodies with biological signals is shown at the top of the pane. This can be configured to display under different circumstances. You can also choose when to filter the genera/species breakdown, or disable the feature so the entire system is always visible.

Notes

As EDMC only parses new journal entries, this does not preserve historical data. If you restart EDMC, any partial system progress will be lost. You can get some info again, like the mapped body signals, but some of the data used to determine correct species as well as your scan progress will be lost.

I may integrate pulling data from EDSM to help with this in the future.

Certain checks like the nebula check, guardian site, and galactic regions are likely to be imperfect and may give false positive or negatives around the edges of those areas.

0.7 Beta Release Pre-release
Pre-release

This release brings initial nebula detection primarily for named nebula with accompanying sector names. It also contains a comprehensive list of planetary nebulae, though I'm uncertain if these actually qualify for the nebula requirement on some species.

It cannot yet deal with any procedurally generated nebulae, though I have plans that require some serious data entry and trig.

Other Changes

  • Additional requirement corrections - I'm still finding these
  • Formatting tweaks

0.6 Beta Release Pre-release
Pre-release

This release brings a few small improvements as well as additional refinements to species requirements

Additions

  • Settings pane includes display options for the body signal summary and data filter as well as a debug log toggle

Fixes

  • Minor formatting changes
  • Slightly expand scrollbox
  • Fix some incorrect requirements for various species

Initial Beta Release

First beta release of BioScan

  • Species rules for: Atmosphere, temperature, gravity, volcanism, star type, nearby bodies, body type, distance, galactic region
  • On initial scan, displays bodies with biological signals and calculates possible species
  • Displays value estimates for all possible species
  • Filters to actual genera once mapped
  • Filters to body when landing / on surface
  • Detects comp scans and analysis tool scans, confirming species and displaying scan progress
  • Summarizes system value of analysed species

Please Note

  • It's entirely possible there are still false positives and false negatives in the requirements. Please report any inconsistencies. This can include a genus displaying a 0 credit estimate, a located species outside of the estimated value range, or a confirmed genus that was not present in the initial estimate list. The more information you can give me about the system, body, and confirmed species, the better.
  • Please note that the region filters are rough estimates. It should work fairly well in the bulk of the various galactic arms, but if you're in the space between, the regions may not quite line up with the actual galactic arm and you may get incorrect results.
  • Rules for Horizons lifeforms are sometimes imprecise as it's very difficult to tell if you're in a nebula or near a guardian site, for example. These will likely have false positives for bodies with no atmosphere.
