Summary

  • Adds a new screenshot-demo tool to demonstrate how screenshot/image data appears in PostHog's LLM Analytics
  • Useful for testing computer-use style products that send screenshots with AI requests
  • Randomly selects from sample UI screenshots when testing

Features

  • Sends screenshots with chat messages to Anthropic Claude and OpenAI GPT-4o
  • Includes 5 sample UI screenshots for testing (from PostHog frontend snapshots)
  • Supports tool calls (click, type, scroll) to simulate computer-use workflows
  • Enables _INTERNAL_LLMA_MULTIMODAL to preserve base64 image data in PostHog

Usage

# Interactive menu
make run-screenshot-demo

# Quick demo with tools
cd python/screenshot-demo && ./run.sh --tools

# Debug mode
make run-screenshot-demo-debug

Test plan

  • Run ./run.sh --tools - verified both Anthropic and OpenAI successfully analyze screenshots
  • Verified random image selection works across multiple runs
  • Checked PostHog receives the image data (requires _INTERNAL_LLMA_MULTIMODAL=true)
