I'm a big fan of simple code examples in documentation.

Here is a quicky example for read(). If this is accepted I'd like to add something similar for sysread().

Interesting. TIL that there is a 78 character limit on POD. My longest line was 71 characters, but there is an additional 8 included automatically for indents.

+1 (including 4 from =over's and 4 as base indent) near line 6694 of pod/perlfunc.pod

This should be corrected now.
