A quick overview of the architecture:

Data flow

Sensor Node

1. ATMega328 collects readings from ultrasonic rangefinder using PWM and temperature sensor using 1-Wire bus

2. Sends them over serial to the SRF which puts them in an LLAP frame with a node ID and sends over 868Mhz ISM band wireless

Gateway Device (supports multiple Sensor Nodes)

3. Serial Port outputs as /dev/ttyAMA0 (for GPIO Ciseco Slice of Radio)

4. http://nodered.org/ parses these and outputs in either https or mqtt to IoT data hub

Iot Data Hub

5. IoT data hub stores these ready for an app to display
