Project Status

This project is in Discovery Phase. You can track project status on the Project Tasks board.

Project Goal

This is a project created with the goal of teaching people how to understand, contextualize, and advocate for a fair budget on a local level. It is an open source wiki with simple, plain language instructions on how the budget process works and where the city is in the process, with lightweight visualizations and contextual data of key budget areas for distribution on social media.

How To Contribute

We need many types of people to contribute to this project. This section is still being developed.

To begin, we have user experience surveys for the Discovery Phase (this is our current phase.) Please complete this survey. Once you've completed that survey, fill out our volunteer interest form.

These are project roles that need to be filled.

  • Lead Outreach: Part journalism, part user experience research.
  • Lead Researcher:
  • Lead Writer:

These are small, ongoing tasks that volunteers can quickly pitch in on:

  • Research (3-4 hrs): Learn something about budgets, or talk with someone who knows budgets. Write a wiki on your learnings of part of the budget process. You can access these small, ongoing tasks in the "Pitch In" Project Board.
  • Data Entry (15-20 min start-up): We'll create a wiki page for this.
