Hey everyone — we’re trying something new. Thanks to our awesome community, a ton of work from our GSoC students, and the maintainer team, we now have a point-and-shoot way to feed a public GitHub repo into OpenCRE’s OIE pipeline and see what it keeps as security knowledge. You can find it on the WIP PR: #1088 (branch This is version zero of the OWASP agent (ingest → classify → show knowledge). We’re fine-tuning toward v1 and prepping for a release around AppSec California / AppSec SF — and we want beta testers from the community to hammer it before then. How you can help

Update: any LiteLLM provider / mid-size chat modelModule B already runs through LiteLLM. Ingest preflight now accepts whatever provider key matches your model — not Gemini-only. In OPENAI_API_KEY=…

./scripts/ingest_github.sh https://github.com/OWASP/ASVS --ingest_model anthropic/claude-haiku-4-5Prefer a mid-size chat model (gpt-4o-mini, Claude Haiku/Sonnet, Gemini Flash, Llama 70B on Groq, …). Don’t paste keys in the PR. |
|
Wording tweak for beta testers: any LiteLLM chat model works; mid-size models usually work best (cheap + reliable for the classify gate — tiny stubs can be flaky, frontier models are optional spend). |

…name-packer Sync with PR #1088 upstream. Prefer dual-index librarian defaults on conflicts; take 1088-only harness/full-pipeline/NIST/harvester additions.
Dual-index retrieval, CRE summaries, prior cage, hub seed, edition remap, and related librarian defaults. Rewrites #1088 as the reviewable base; later stacked PRs add harvester, B2 eval, fixtures, mappings, and full-pipeline docs.

Review comment at @scripts/oie_sync_cre_hub.py around lines 232 - 237: Remove the ineffective `--require-local-destination` argument from the argument parser in `main`; its `store_true` action with a `True` default makes it redundant with the remote-destination option. 96-104: 📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick winStop using
TypeErrorto detect allowlist support.
_retrieve_allowlistcatches everyTypeErrorfromself._inner.retrieve(text, allowlist=...). A realTypeErrorinside an allowlist-capable retriever is therefore swallowed. The code then silently makes a second, uncaged vector search and filters its results. This hides the defect and doubles retrieval cost. It runs on every caged, relaxed, edition-retry, umbrella andpref-materializecall. Check the capability once in__init__, for example withinspect.signature(inner.retrieve).parameters, and branch on that flag.♻️ Proposed refactor

26-50: 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🔵 Trivial | 🏗️ Heavy liftMerge the two rankings by rank, not by raw cosine.
merge_cre_auditskeeps the higher rawscore_vectorand sorts on it. The two score sets come from different indexes:
- Standard-node prose cosines.
- CRE-hub cosines.
These scores are not calibrated against each other.
dual_index_retriever.pystates the same problem for its own pools. If one pool produces systematically higher cosines, that pool takes the top of the shortlist.Reciprocal Rank Fusion avoids comparing raw scores. The score is
sum(1/(k + rank))withk=60. Keepscore_vectorunchanged for audit purposes. This follows the retrieved learning: "use Reciprocal Rank Fusion (RRF) to merge ranked result lists… Flag hybrid search implementations that directly combine raw similarity scores."

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
The broader retry scope sends duplicate LLM calls through the extra_try_kwargs fallback.
with_rate_limit_retry now retries transient errors, and it sleeps CRE_LLM_RETRY_SLEEP_SECONDS (default 15s) between attempts. The classifier matches on substrings such as "timeout" in an exception class name or message. A request-validation error whose message contains "timeout" will therefore be retried. That retry repeats the same deterministic failure and adds 30s of delay. Narrow the message tokens so a word like "timeout" in a parameter-validation message does not trigger a retry, or rely on exception types first.
The log format has a second problem. It reads "%s limited during %s", so a connection reset is logged as "transient limited". Change the wording.

An empty allowlist runs an unrestricted global search.
Both retrievers test if allowlist:. frozenset() is falsy, so an empty cage takes the unrestricted branch and returns the global top-K. In PgVectorRetriever.retrieve, the if not ids: early return at Lines 282-288 can never run. The docstring says an empty set returns an empty audit, but the code does the opposite.
The expected behavior is:
allowlist=Nonemeans no cage.- An empty allowlist means no CRE is allowed, so the result must be empty.
HubLeafCageRetriever guards against an empty cage before it calls the inner retriever. Other wrappers, such as PriorCagedRetriever and future callers, do not get that guard. For those callers, an empty cage silently leaks out-of-cage candidates.

score_rerank now holds hybrid scores, but the C.3 scaler expects raw CE logits.
score_rerank is now one of two values:
- The hybrid score
α·vector + β·title + γ·minmax(CE). - The CE logit plus the title boost.
In the default configuration, HYBRID_WHEN_LE=20 equals top_k_retrieval=20, so every shortlist uses the hybrid path.
pipeline.py (Lines 432-452) builds ce_logits from score_rerank and passes them to self._scaler.confidence. The comment there says "Confidence stays on CE logits (fitted T)". That comment is no longer true. T was fitted on raw MiniLM logits.
The hybrid values have a different, compressed range. minmax always sets the top CE value to 1.0. The softmax confidence is therefore uncalibrated, and the τ=0.8 auto-link decision is applied to a different quantity.
Keep the raw CE logit in score_rerank, and sort on score_hybrid. The CreCandidate schema already defines score_hybrid. An alternative is to refit T on the hybrid scores.

Reject near-exact matches that share no tokens.
The near-exact branch compares raw strings with name in key or key in name. This is a character-substring test, not a token test. A 4-character CRE name such as data matches the title key metadata protection. _token_f1 then returns 0.0, and the code still appends the CRE to ranked. PriorCagedRetriever puts every exact_ids entry into preferred (tier 2, +0.18 boost). The unrelated CRE then outranks all prior-caged hits, and pref-materialize can pull it back in if it was missing.
Skip candidates whose token F1 is 0.0.

Include CRE records missing from a partial embedding index.
If the clone has embeddings for some CREs but not others, cre_texts is nonempty and this fallback never adds the missing records. inject_cre_summaries iterates only cre_texts, so those CREs receive no summary cache file. Merge missing canonical CRE IDs from records into cre_texts while retaining existing embedding text.

Do not map GitHub tree/ URLs to raw content.

PostgreSQL 16 libpq sslmode prefer require verify-full client certificate hostname verification official documentation
💡 Result:
Inspection citation: inspection_5a5b06af41c79639e5213417de564dd8
For **PostgreSQL 16 libpq**, these settings control **verification of the server**, not whether the server verifies a client certificate:
| `sslmode` | Behavior |
|---|---|
| `prefer` (default) | Try TLS first, then fall back to non-TLS. Does **not** verify the server certificate or hostname. |
| `require` | Require TLS. By default, does **not** verify the server certificate; if a root CA file is present, libpq verifies it as with `verify-ca`. |
| `verify-full` | Require TLS, verify the server certificate against a trusted CA, and verify the requested hostname matches the certificate. | ([postgresql.org](https://www.postgresql.org/docs/16/libpq-connect.html?utm_source=openai))
For hostname verification, use `sslmode=verify-full` with a trusted CA configured via `sslrootcert` (or the system trust store). The hostname used for verification must be available; `hostaddr` alone is insufficient. ([postgresql.org](https://www.postgresql.org/docs/16/libpq-connect.html?utm_source=openai))
A **client certificate** is separate: set `sslcert` and `sslkey` to provide one. To require the server to request a client certificate, libpq 16 also supports `sslcertmode=require`; however, the server must be configured to validate and require it—typically with `clientcert=verify-ca` or `verify-full` in a matching `hostssl` rule, or `cert` authentication. ([postgresql.org](https://www.postgresql.org/docs/16/libpq-connect.html?utm_source=openai))
**Practical choice:** use `sslmode=verify-full` for server identity and hostname verification; configure server-side client-certificate validation separately if mutual TLS is required.

For **PostgreSQL 16 libpq**:
- `prefer` (the default) tries SSL first, then falls back to a non-SSL connection.
- `require` uses SSL only. If a root CA file is present, it also verifies the certificate as `verify-ca` would.
- `verify-full` uses SSL only, verifies the certificate against a trusted CA, **and** checks that the requested hostname matches the certificate. ([postgresql.org](https://www.postgresql.org/docs/16/libpq-connect.html?utm_source=openai))
So, **`prefer` and `require` do not normally verify the hostname; `verify-full` does.** Note the documented CA-file exception for `require`.

Security Misconfiguration
Reachability: External
Exploitability: Moderate
CWE: CWE-295 — Improper Certificate Validation
Require authenticated TLS for every remote source connection. Unless another libpq setting supplies a stronger mode, a remote URL without sslmode uses the prefer default, which can fall back to plaintext. The AWS/Heroku branch adds only require; by default, that mode does not verify the server certificate, and even with a trusted CA it does not verify the hostname. An on-path attacker can downgrade a prefer connection or impersonate a server when its identity is not verified, exposing CRE data and potentially credentials. Require and validate an effective sslmode=verify-full with trusted CA configuration for remote sources.

Update the connection setup before psycopg2.connect so every remote source uses
an effective sslmode=verify-full with trusted CA configuration, rather than

Stop after a refused redirect.
If this check rejects a redirect, _fetch_plain_http_text returns None. in_memory_embeddings.get_content then retries the original URL through page.goto, which follows redirects without this allowlist. A GitHub raw URL that redirects to a prohibited host can therefore make the browser fetch that host. Return a distinct rejection result and prevent the Playwright fallback for rejected redirects. (playwright.dev)
Based on learnings, redirect targets must pass the same allowlist before the client fetches them.

Inspect the full section before returning a clean safety verdict.
If an instruction to manipulate CRE links appears after character 6,000, the classifier never sees it. The pipeline can then auto-link the section on a clean verdict. Classify every part of the section, or treat an uninspected remainder as unevaluated rather than clean.

Require both safety flags to be JSON booleans.
If the model returns only {"adversarial": false}, this parser marks the verdict evaluated even though update_ambiguous is absent. If it returns "false" as a string, bool("false") incorrectly sets the flag. Reject incomplete or wrong-typed verdicts as unevaluated.

Do not log the raw model response.
If an unparseable response repeats section text, this warning writes up to 200 characters of that text to logs. Log the chunk ID and parse failure without the response body.

Validate each destination host separately.
For postgresql:///cre?host=%2Ftmp%2Cdb.example.com, parse_qs produces /tmp,db.example.com. The startswith("/") check accepts the entire value as local. Libpq treats it as two hosts and can connect to db.example.com if the socket is unavailable. With valid credentials, the script can replace embeddings on that remote database without --allow-remote-destination. Split and validate every effective host, or reject multi-host destinations.
