MiniCPMV4_6VisionModel now passes its configured attention capacity as max_seq_len to _prepare_qwen_vl_vision_attn_metadata. It initializes the capacity from model_config.max_num_tokens and rejects nonpositive updates.
The model now implements MultimodalEncoderMixin, so the engine can update its vision attention capacity through set_attn_max_seq_len. Verify that engine-provided encoder budgets match the intended segment limit. The tests cover capacity updates and over-capacity errors. No current review findings were supplied, so severity counts are unavailable.
Reported CI results are mixed: PR_Github succeeded for commit 5879fd1, while associated L0 runs were reported as FAILURE and UNSTABLE. The author also reported a GB300 pass and an A10 L0 pass.
QA Engineer Review
The modified test file adds test_minicpmv46_multimodal_forward and test_minicpmv46_vision_attn_capacity_is_stable_across_grids. The CUDA-gated tests cover multimodal output behavior, stable capacity across grids, engine budget updates, and the over-capacity ValueError path.
The test file is listed in tests/integration/test_lists/test-db/l0_a10.yml. No manual-QA list entry was found. Coverage verdict: sufficient for the changed forward and capacity behavior.

Description
MiniCPM-V 4.6 image and video inference fails in the vision encoder:
MiniCPMV4_6VisionModel._make_attn_metadata calls _prepare_qwen_vl_vision_attn_metadata(seq_lens, attn_metadata). #16568 made max_seq_len a required keyword-only argument of that helper (prepare_encoder_attn_metadata) and updated the Qwen-VL and Cosmos3 callers, but not MiniCPM-V 4.6 (added in #15976). Every branch of _get_image_features builds its metadata through this call, so every image and video request fails.
This change passes a per-segment capacity through the engine's encoder token budget, like the other vision towers. MiniCPMV4_6VisionModel now opts into MultimodalEncoderMixin, so setup_mm_encoder_attn_metadata hands it encoder_max_num_tokens (which falls back to max_num_tokens) through set_attn_max_seq_len. Until the engine calls it, the capacity defaults to model_config.max_num_tokens. MiniCPM still builds its attention metadata per forward from the live grids, so its setup_attn_metadata is a no-op. The default budget of 8192 covers the processor's normal slices (1024 to 1152 raw patches). A longer segment is rejected with the helper's ValueError.
New: tests/unittest/_torch/modeling/test_modeling_minicpmv4_6.py::test_minicpmv46_multimodal_forward. It builds the registered MiniCPMV4_6ForConditionalGeneration (small config, random weights, VANILLA backend), runs image inputs through the real vision tower and language model, and checks that:
the logits are finite, with the expected shape and dtype;
feeding the vision tower's own embeddings back as an attached multimodal_embedding reproduces the image logits;
changing the pixels changes the logits;
the logits differ from a decoder-bypassed baseline.
The file is already listed in l0_a10.yml, so the new test runs in L0.
New: tests/unittest/_torch/modeling/test_modeling_minicpmv4_6.py::test_minicpmv46_vision_attn_capacity_is_stable_across_grids. On the TRTLLM backend, it checks that vision attention metadata for two different grid sizes keeps the configured capacity, and that a segment above the capacity raises ValueError. It then runs the engine's setup_mm_encoder_attn_metadata with a larger encoder budget and checks that the larger capacity is used.

…n attention metadata
MiniCPMV4_6VisionModel._make_attn_metadata called
_prepare_qwen_vl_vision_attn_metadata(seq_lens, attn_metadata) without the
keyword-only max_seq_len that NVIDIA#16568 made required, so every MiniCPM-V 4.6
image or video request failed with a TypeError in the vision encoder. Pass
a fixed per-segment capacity from model_config.max_num_tokens, as the
Qwen-VL and Cosmos3 vision towers do, so the native attention-op cache key
stays stable across image resolutions.
Add a forward test that builds the registered
MiniCPMV4_6ForConditionalGeneration and runs images through the real
vision tower and language model. Without this fix it fails with the
TypeError.

Summary
Set vision attention-metadata capacity tensorrt_llm/_torch/models/modeling_minicpmv4_6.py
The vision model inherits MultimodalEncoderMixin, initializes its attention sequence-length limit from model_config.max_num_tokens, validates updates to the limit, and passes it to _prepare_qwen_vl_vision_attn_metadata.
Test multimodal forward behavior and capacity tests/unittest/_torch/modeling/test_modeling_minicpmv4_6.py
CUDA-gated tests check output shape, dtype, and finiteness; compare image-input and precomputed-embedding paths; and verify capacity behavior at lengths 64, 65, and 100 after the token budget changes.
Image inference works when the encoder capacity is sufficient. Smaller capacities may still require an override; that limitation predates this change.

Test stable capacity on the native attention path.
The forward test uses VANILLA and one image grid. It does not cover the native TRTLLM metadata path or detect a regression that replaces the fixed capacity with the live grid length. Add a focused test with two different grid lengths and assert that both metadata objects retain the configured max_seq_len.

…acity on TRTLLM
Address review feedback: pin that vision attention metadata for grids of
different resolutions keeps the configured per-segment capacity on the
TRTLLM backend, and that a segment above it is rejected.
Correct the capacity comment. The metadata is rebuilt per call from the
live grid, so the fixed max_seq_len satisfies the shared encoder helper's
contract rather than keeping the attention-op cache key constant.

Both tested batches have totals at or below 64. A regression that limits the batch total instead of each segment would pass. Add a case such as [40, 40] and assert that both lengths are accepted.
As per path instructions, test “meaningful boundaries” and assertions that “would pass despite a plausible regression.”

This test passes if the model always uses 64 instead of max_num_tokens. Parameterize the capacity and boundary assertions with another value, such as 128.

Update the test containing max_num_tokens so it checks multiple configured
capacities, such as 64 and 128, and parameterize the related boundary assertions
to verify behavior follows each configured value rather than a hardcoded 64.

…m the encoder token budget
Opt MiniCPMV4_6VisionModel into MultimodalEncoderMixin so the engine's
setup_mm_encoder_attn_metadata hands it encoder_max_num_tokens through
set_attn_max_seq_len, like the other vision towers. Metadata is still
built per forward from the live grids, so setup_attn_metadata is a no-op.
