[TRTLLMINF-400][infra] Refresh TOT waives from OpenDB before final test failure - #21009
A test can remain failed after its target branch gains a new waive. Before the final test-failure verdict, refresh that branch's waive states from OpenDB and convert newly covered failures into JUnit skips. Uncovered failures still fail the job.
Save the initial unmerged TOT waive list, download timestamp, and target commit. A refreshed rule must newly cover the failed test and have a tracker ts_created later than that snapshot. No second PR-diff fetch or waive-list merge is required.
Select the latest tracker state for each test and scope before filtering active waives, so revoked rules cannot be resurrected. OpenDB avoids repeated GitHub/GitLab API calls from failing stages.
Require results for every expected test. Named setup/body timeouts may be waived only when the remaining expected tests have executed. Missing tests, performance failures, and whole-job Slurm timeouts retain failure. Native Slurm refresh is limited to unsplit, single-task pytest failures with a passing performance check.
Preserve infra classification and retry precedence. Retryable infra failures reach the existing retry boundary; eligible remaining failures receive the final waive check after the retry budget is exhausted. Interruptions propagate.
Mark the failed execution child stage red immediately, before report generation or waive-summary stages. The TOT Waive Result stage shows skipped/retained counts and each test's reason. When every eligible failure is waived, the test job succeeds while the execution child remains red.
Keep Jenkins test cases SKIPPED while retaining the original error message and stack trace in JUnit properties. Both child and parent JUnit publishers retain those properties. Original XML backups, the initial baseline, OpenDB snapshot, latest waive list, and decision report remain in test-result artifacts.
The companion collector branch, commit 13dc896, reads the raw-error properties and emits s_status=FAILED, s_final_status=SKIPPED, b_waived=true, the original error fields, and the waive reason. Job counters and active-failure notifications continue to use the final Jenkins result. Database retention requires publishing that collector change; it has been pushed to a fork and has not been deployed.
138 local CPU checks passed, covering the refresh decision logic, Groovy verdict/exception propagation, Slurm installation, and infra dry-run behavior. Applicable pre-commit and DCO checks passed.
127 collector checks passed, including real Jenkins JSON replay, original-error preservation, ordinary pass/failure/skip compatibility, unchanged final counters, and NVDataFlow payload types. Replay performs no production database writes.
Dedicated dev Jenkins validation: #9 SUCCESS verifies red regular/isolated execution stages, green waive summaries, and an overall successful job. #8 FAILURE verifies that an unwaived failure still fails the job. The default Jenkins test-report API retains raw failure properties on SKIPPED cases. The original dev job configuration was restored.
One bot run, commit 3186536, is running through PR_Github #81136. It requests all three CPU cases together with fail-fast disabled:
Case
Execution child stage
Final waive verdict
JUnit cases
All regular failures newly waived
FAILURE
Pass
One pass, one skip
One failure not newly waived
FAILURE
Fail
One retained failure, one skip
Isolated failure newly waived
Isolated child FAILURE; regular execution SUCCESS
Pass
One pass, one skip
The mixed validation job is expected to fail because it includes the negative control. The fixtures use an empty initial waive list and a simulated old baseline, then query real OpenDB; no TOT or tracker records are modified. Compiled artifacts are reused, while the runtime refresher and test wrapper come from the validation commit.
Temporary stage definitions, simulated-baseline setup, runtime overlay, and fault injection will be removed after this run. The cleanup patch has already passed the 138 local checks. No new permanent test files are being added; an existing infra dry-run assertion is updated to permit JUnit publisher options. Live checks cover K8s CPU execution; native Slurm and abort/infra retry cases have local regression coverage.

Walkthrough
The pipeline records an initial target-branch waive snapshot and eligibility data. A new script compares failed tests with later waive updates and reclassifies eligible failures in JUnit reports. Jenkins test stages use the script’s outcomes when handling isolated, regular, and eligible SLURM test failures.

Summary
Capture waive snapshots and eligibility jenkins/L0_MergeRequest.groovy, jenkins/scripts/open_search_db.py, jenkins/scripts/slurm_run.sh
The merge-request pipeline writes a timestamped, commit-specific snapshot of the target-branch waive list. The waive index is added to the read-access allowlist. Eligible single-task SLURM runs write a GPU capability marker.
Parse and query waive rules jenkins/scripts/refresh_test_waives.py
The script parses waive rules and shard test lists, queries target-branch waive states, and selects active exact-match rules with recorded timestamps.
Reclassify failures and report outcomes jenkins/scripts/refresh_test_waives.py
The script compares current rules with the initial snapshot. It reclassifies eligible JUnit failures when the expected-test list is complete, backs up changed reports, and returns distinct refresh statuses.
Apply refresh outcomes in Jenkins test stages jenkins/L0_Test.groovy
Jenkins accumulates isolated and regular test failures, retains unsplit test-list paths, and invokes waive refresh where applicable. Retryable infrastructure failures and remaining test failures follow separate final handling.

Include EXTRA_STAGE_LIST in both validation-only guards.
If stage_list contains only validation stages and extra_stage contains a non-validation stage, this code still empties waives.txt. The non-validation stage then runs with the wrong waive list. The SBSA guard also skips a requested SBSA extra stage. Build the validation-only decision from both stage-selection lists and use the same rule in both locations.

Update both validation-only guards to evaluate the combined selections from
requestedStages and EXTRA_STAGE_LIST, so a non-validation extra stage prevents
validation-only behavior and a requested SBSA extra stage is not skipped. Keep

656-656: Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win
Use a run-specific baseline timestamp for the validation fixture.
The refresh contract accepts only waives with recorded_ms > snapshot_ms. A rerun does not classify a validation failure when its OpenDB record was created at or before 2026-10-27T02:52:27.045Z, even if that record is intended for the validation run. Generate the fixture timestamp from the test setup, or verify that all fixture records are created after this fixed timestamp.

Replace the hard-coded snapshot timestamp in the validation fixture with a
timestamp derived from the test setup, ensuring fixture records have recorded_ms
later than snapshot_ms so reruns classify validation failures consistently.

Do not clear a classified infrastructure failure with a test waive.
If collectSlurmJobLogEvidence classifies the job as InfraFailure and its retry is unavailable, this return can still mark the stage successful. The eligibility marker confirms a single-task pytest exit code of 1 and a passing performance check. It does not rule out an infrastructure fault that caused the named pytest failure. Keep the classified infrastructure failure when the retry budget is exhausted. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

--reuse-test (optional)pipeline-id (OPTIONAL) : Allow the new pipeline to reuse build artifacts and skip successful test stages from a specified pipeline or the last pipeline if no pipeline-id is indicated. If the Git commit ID has changed, this option will be always ignored. The DEFAULT behavior of the bot is to reuse build artifacts and successful test results from the last pipeline.
--disable-reuse-test (OPTIONAL) : Explicitly prevent the pipeline from reusing build artifacts and skipping successful test stages from a previous pipeline. Ensure that all builds and tests are run regardless of previous successes.
--disable-fail-fast (OPTIONAL) : Disable fail fast on build/tests/infra failures.
--skip-test (OPTIONAL) : Skip all test stages, but still run build stages, package stages and sanity check stages. Note: Does NOT update GitHub check status.
--stage-list "A10-PyTorch-1, xxx"(OPTIONAL) : Only run the specified test stages. Supports wildcard * for pattern matching (e.g., "*PerfSanity*" matches all stages containing PerfSanity). Examples: "A10-PyTorch-1, xxx", "PerfSanity". The patterns "*", "*Post-Merge*", and "*PerfSanity*", including equivalent escaped or repeated-star forms and their use in comma-separated lists, require the ci: post-merge approved PR label. Note: Does NOT update GitHub check status.
--gpu-type "A30, H100_PCIe"(OPTIONAL) : Only run the test stages on the specified GPU types. Examples: "A30, H100_PCIe". Note: Does NOT update GitHub check status.
--test-backend "pytorch, cpp"(OPTIONAL) : Skip test stages which don't match the specified backends. Only support [pytorch, cpp, tensorrt, triton]. Examples: "pytorch, cpp" (does not run test stages with tensorrt or triton backend). Note: Does NOT update GitHub pipeline status.
--only-multi-gpu-test (OPTIONAL) : Only run the multi-GPU tests. Requires the ci: full pre-merge approved label on the PR (ask a member of NVIDIA/trt-llm-ci-approvers). Note: Does NOT update GitHub check status.
--disable-multi-gpu-test (OPTIONAL) : Disable the multi-GPU tests. Note: Does NOT update GitHub check status.
--add-multi-gpu-test (OPTIONAL) : Force run the multi-GPU tests in addition to running L0 pre-merge pipeline. Requires the ci: full pre-merge approved label on the PR (ask a member of NVIDIA/trt-llm-ci-approvers).
--post-merge (OPTIONAL) : Run the L0 post-merge pipeline instead of the ordinary L0 pre-merge pipeline. Requires the ci: post-merge approved PR label applied by an active member of NVIDIA/trt-llm-ci-approvers. The approval label remains in place when new commits are pushed.
--extra-stage "H100_PCIe-TensorRT-Post-Merge-1, xxx"(OPTIONAL) : Run the ordinary L0 pre-merge pipeline and specified test stages. Supports wildcard * for pattern matching. Examples: --extra-stage "H100_PCIe-TensorRT-Post-Merge-1, xxx", --extra-stage "Post-Merge". The patterns "*", "*Post-Merge*", and "*PerfSanity*", including equivalent escaped or repeated-star forms and their use in comma-separated lists, require the ci: post-merge approved PR label.
--detailed-log (OPTIONAL) : Enable flushing out all logs to the Jenkins console. This will significantly increase the log volume and may slow down the job.
--debug (OPTIONAL) : Experimental feature. Enable access to the CI container for debugging purpose. Note: Specify exactly one stage in the stage-list parameter to access the appropriate container environment. Note: Does NOT update GitHub check status.
--high-priority (OPTIONAL) : Run the pipeline with high priority. This option is restricted to authorized users only and will route the job to a high-priority queue.

Validation
One bot run, commit
3186536, is running through PR_Github #81136. It requests all three CPU cases together with fail-fast disabled:The mixed validation job is expected to fail because it includes the negative control.
