Sort order for "Latest posts" not following date

Expected behaviour

Posts in "Latest posts" section of home page ordered chronologically starting with the newest.

Actual behaviour

Posts are listed in a non-chronological order.

Steps to reproduce

Hi, thanks for this amazing and well-documented theme! I've been using tabi for a tennis blog side project and everything has been smooth, but I'm having an issue with the order that the "Latest posts" appear in on the main page.

I have my posts living in /content/posts/*.md and my /content/_index.md has the following TOML header (based on the advice here):

title = "Latest posts"
sort_by = "date"

[extra]
header = { title = "" }
section_path = "posts/_index.md"
max_posts = 5
+++

Unfortunately, I'm not seeing the expected behaviour on the site. The posts on the home page each have a date value set in their TOML header like date = "2024-12-29", but they are still showing in a seemingly random order in the "Latest posts" list (see the site here).

I've figured out that each time I run zola serve and view the live site preview in the browser, the order changes for some reason.

I'm sure I'm missing something but I can't figure it out. Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Try removing the quotation marks :)

Right now Zola is trying to sort by a string and not a date object (TOML docs). That should fix it!

Thanks for the quick reply, but that actually wasn't the problem. I didn't realise that the sort_by = "date" needed to be included in /content/posts/_index.md, not just in content/_index.md - once I fixed that it started working as expected. (Figured it out by reading the comments in getzola/zola#561.)
