back in 2018, w3c/html-aam#131 was filed to suggest we add mapping tables for Android.

that seems reasonable, but we need someone from Andriod to provide us / do this work.

But, not just android, there are other platforms which HTML aam should potentially consider:

  • iOS
  • gaming system browsers
  • other browsers that arent webkit, gecko, chromium
  • wearables / other internet of things
  • etc.

This list could go one for awhile... is it worth adding all these? some?

discuss...

Given Android does and iOS does in the EU (in theory) allow third party engines, and these platforms are a massive portion of web traffic I would personally say accurate mappings for these platforms are necessary. Other devices are less likely to have third-party browser engines so accurate mappings aren't as vital (the OS vendor also works on the browser so can ensure it works correctly).
