Vite npm install stuck forever

Describe the bug

I'm trying to npm install vite, but couldn't get it installed because it's either stuck at sill idealTree or throw timeout error. I tried to switch network connections and turn on & off my VPN. Nothing works.

Are using a special internet connection like mobile hotspot or something similar? I had a similar problem in the past, not specific to Vite, while I was using my mobile phone as a hotspot.

I am having the same issue, on several computers, even on different networks.

❯ node -v
v22.5.1

❯ npm -v
10.8.2

npm cache clear --force
echo '{"dependencies":{"vite": "^5.3.4"}}' > package.json
npm i

It hangs, forever. Requires a pskill -9 npm to stop it.

okay it fixed itself after updating npm

This was the same for me. Did an "nvm install --lts" and it upgraded me to node 22.14.0 / npm 10.9.2 and the vite install completed successfully.
Previously I was running on node 22.11.0 / npm 11.2.0. Uh okay, that's weird that it downgraded my npm. Whatever, it's working now, I'll take it. :-)

Has anyone found a fix? I haven't made any changes or updates, but it's still happening since I started the project.
It's been hanging forever.
