Not able to utilize Skills, please help!

I've been trying to utilize skills in the main chat window, but they simply aren't getting applied in the prompt.

These are the exact steps I take:

1. Press the plus sign in the prompt window and select skills.
2. Specify which particular skill I want to be applied.
3. In the final query I send to the language model, I mention the name of the skill with an "@" sign.
   However, the skill never gets applied. For reference, I'm using granite-4.1-3B at 16k context, which has tool using capabilities. I invoke only one skill at a time, but the skill's never applied.

You can see that the response isn't very caveman-like. I've tried it with other skills, other models (including frontier models from OpenRouter) - all the same result. The "@" text is treated literally as text, not pulling in the skill content itself. Am I doing something wrong?

Update - found the answer, running skills requires that the "Code" mode be switched on. However, I could not find this point mentioned explicitly anywhere in the UI - I think this should be mentioned clearly somewhere.

How does one turn the code mode on?

It should be visible as an option in the prompt box itself, where you type your query.
