Which Umbraco version are you using? (Please write the exact version, example: 10.1.0)

15.2.2

Bug summary

Experiencing significant latency (10-15 seconds) in the Umbraco v15.2.2 editor when running locally (IIS/VS2022) with an Azure-hosted SQL database. The issue affects CMS actions like saving and publishing, delaying API calls. The same setup works fine with previous Umbraco versions (e.g., v13), and performance is normal when the WebApp is deployed to Azure. Seeking guidance on potential configuration issues or known bugs affecting local IIS-to-Azure SQL connectivity in v15.

Specifics

We are experience latency issues in the CMS editor when running Umbraco v15.2.2 locally (IIS/VS2022) with the connection string pointing to a database hosted on Azure (high spec Elastic Pool)

When doing anything in the CMS for example saving & publishing, it is taking 10-15 seconds to call the management API.

Deploying the WebApp to Azure (so Azure to Azure) works fine.

Also, previous versions of Umbraco (e.g. v13) are working perfect in the same environment of local IIS connecting to Azure SQL DB.

Setting the database up locally in SSMS also works perfect, as expected.

The only issue we are having is when local IIS connecting to Azure database on v15

Is there a config setting we are missing or a know issue we don't know about?

Steps to reproduce

Create a Azure SQL Database (high spec)

Install fresh version of Umbraco 15.2.2. in Visual Studio 2022

Set connection string to below

Connection String : Server=tcp:.database.windows.net,1433;Initial Catalog=MacsAdventure-Development;Persist Security Info=False;User ID=;Password=*****;MultipleActiveResultSets=False;Encrypt=True;TrustServerCertificate=False;Connection Timeout=30;

Create one simple DocType

Create one simple page node

Save & Publish

Watch Chrome Console > Network Tab > multiple seconds when calling the management api endpoints

Expected result / actual result

Near instant publish times when clicking publish on a node

Hi there @GlynnPowellMacs!

Firstly, a big thank you for raising this issue. Every piece of feedback we receive helps us to make Umbraco better.

We really appreciate your patience while we wait for our team to have a look at this but we wanted to let you know that we see this and share with you the plan for what comes next.

  • We'll assess whether this issue relates to something that has already been fixed in a later version of the release that it has been raised for.
  • If it's a bug, is it related to a release that we are actively supporting or is it related to a release that's in the end-of-life or security-only phase?
  • We'll replicate the issue to ensure that the problem is as described.
  • We'll decide whether the behavior is an issue or if the behavior is intended.

We wish we could work with everyone directly and assess your issue immediately but we're in the fortunate position of having lots of contributions to work with and only a few humans who are able to do it. We are making progress though and in the meantime, we will keep you in the loop and let you know when we have any questions.

Thanks, from your friendly Umbraco GitHub bot 🤖 🙂

Hi @GlynnPowellMacs , I set up to connect to the Azure SQL database for both v13.7.0 and v15.2.2, and the latency was the same on both versions. (same environment of local IIS connecting to Azure SQL DB).
Which version of v13 that you see has less latency time?
