Is possible to run the ublock origin filters inside of a proxy such as the squid transparent proxy ?

Hi,

I have some very slow computers that I wish to continue using, especially my old phone, which I only use for web browsing.

These are quite slow when running ublock origin and dark reader

So I was wondering if I could perform the filtering in another computer, such as a server in my house running a proxy, either a socks or transparent proxy.

And hopefully it could remove all the ads in a better way than a simple DNS blacklist could ?

Please let me know if this is possible

I found an old web page about doing this

At the same time? Did you try disabling Dark Reader and running only uBO?
I'm asking because Dark Reader is known to cause slow performance: LINK
And uBO is known to be very fast and optimized, therefore it should be fast even on slow computers / phones.
Maybe this is Dark Reader causing slowness for you, and not uBO.

If you want it to be better than a typical DNS blocklist proxy, then you need to run a dedicaded solution: uBlock Origin Core. But it still won't be as much good as uBO browser extension, because it lacks cosmetic filtering and few other things which can work only in browser extension, means you will still see empty ad placeholders.

But this will not be better than a typical DNS proxy, and will be even worse and will have have side-effects.
uBlock Origin Core is a dedicated solution and will be better.

I will try uBlock Origin Core to see if that lightens it up.

I'm also using the futo keyboard and that might the problem it's hard to tell without doing systematic compartimentalisation of each process.

That's why I was hoping maybe I could offload the processes of the three above addon to an LXC container in my server somehow.

I was hoping there was something that could do more than just DNS blocks like "Pi Hole". Something that would perform the html and javascript modifications on the fly, at least the large bulk of it.

Or maybe running the entire fennec process on the server and just forward the display to my phone

Then AdGuard app is what you are looking for. uBO is not a thing you're looking for, as uBO is just a browser extension and is not going to become an application, see discussion:

It depends on whether the creator has dealt with running scriptlets, css filters injection and detecting which domain is requesting a resource or request (to make it more efficient than pfSense on an advanced router).
