Try dropping openxlsx in, which removes the java requirement (this is super annoying on os x as it drops you out of your session when it launches the installer).

yes, this would be nice. didn't have java installed on my linux machine. had to download it for everything to run (not a huge hassle but probably an unnecessary one)

Yeah, I had the same hassle on my laptop. Plus I think it's considered
something of a security hole on Mac at the moment. Well give it a spin and
update if it works.
