FIXED-POINT MP3 ENCODER - LICENSE AGREEMENT
Copyright (C) 1998-2025 Mark Phillips. All rights reserved.
ORIGINAL CODE ATTRIBUTION
This software incorporates MP3 encoder code originally developed by Segher
Boessenkool and acquired through Interactive Objects, Inc. and FullPlay Media
Systems, Inc. (1998-2001). The original encoder provided the foundational MP3
encoding algorithms which were subsequently optimized for embedded systems.
Original development contributions:
- Segher Boessenkool: Core fixed-point MP3 encoding algorithm
- Interactive Objects, Inc.: Embedded platform integration
- FullPlay Media Systems, Inc.: Commercial deployment optimization
All source code assets, intellectual property rights, and commercial rights
were acquired by Mark Phillips and further developed for modern platforms.
The original encoder source code served as the reference implementation for:
- Fixed-point MDCT (Modified Discrete Cosine Transform)
- Polyphase analysis filter bank
- Psychoacoustic model for perceptual encoding
- Huffman encoding and bitstream formatting
- Bit reservoir management
All modern platform adaptations (LP64 compatibility, ARM64 optimization,
sanitizer compliance) were developed by Mark Phillips (2025).
