Hello TagSpaces team,

I hope you're doing well. I wanted to suggest adding support for the JPEG XL (JXL) image format to TagSpaces' Image Viewer. Although the JXL format is currently less widespread than PNG, JPG, etc., it offers more efficient compression, lighter files, and better image quality, all while being a royalty-free format.

By adding support for the JXL format, TagSpaces could help promote its adoption and provide an enhanced user experience for those already using this format. Furthermore, it would make TagSpaces more robust by supporting an additional image format.

I understand that adopting a new format can take time and require significant resources. However, I believe it would be beneficial for TagSpaces and its user community.

Thank you for taking the time to consider my suggestion, and I am available if you have any questions or comments.

Best regards.

Hello @mathe00,

and thanks for this suggestion! I just made a small research on the Internet and found out that such integration should be possible, but unfortunately we do not have currently the resources for implementing it. I hope that someone in the community can extend the our image viewer extension with this functionality:
https://github.com/tagspaces/tagspaces-extensions/tree/main/image-viewer

Greetings,
Ilian
