I noticed that the browser does not appear to show folders that begin with underscores.

huh no problem on macOS. I'll have to check this next time I'm in linux

No problem, thank you for checking into this.
Also thank you for the graphic examples because it just reminded me of something else.... sorting :)
I will probably make a separate post about this at some point because Linux sorting can be strange (at least to me), because every program seems to sort differently so can be confusing :)

MacOS - I see that your MacOS example puts underscores at the bottom.
Windows - puts them at the top (which I prefer)
Linux - all kinds of things :) sometimes at the bottom, sometimes under numbers, sometimes ignores them and just uses the first letter available, etc.

We sort directories using a shared cross platform library which does natural sort (so file 10 comes after file 2) and is platform neutral.
