Is it possible to use non-Haskell TeX library and drop dependency on lhs2tex?

Building `lhs2tex` pulls in a lot of stuff, since their makefiles build apparently does not work anymore. This also means that on many platforms it will not build at all (where current GHC is broken and Cabal not supported).

There are numerous properly cross-platform TeX libraries. Can we use some of those instead?
