Become a sponsor to Mike Hardy
Hi there! I'm Mike Hardy, and working on open source software is my full time job. I love it!
Like everyone else though, I buy food, have housing costs, and need to pay for school for my kid, right?
You can help keep my work in the ecosystem a reality by sponsoring me - your help buys my time making things you use work, it's that simple
Also it helps my family understand why I spend time at the computer instead of getting outside with them ;-)
My main focuses are
- React-Native: making the react-native ecosystem in general work (compile fixes, jetifier, maintaining a few repos)
- All things Firebase: (react-native-firebase maintainership, helping with FlutterFire occassionally, upstream triage)
- User Support overcoming new user challenges (scripted demos, user support, app templates)
- Learning helping everyone in the world learn what the need to learn (AnkiDroid maintainership, the occasional blog post)
If you use any of that software, changes are you've seen the benefit of repositories that are "alive" and generally up to date and functioning with functioning examples, versus that terrible feeling when you realize one of your dependencies has been abandoned.
I want to start a paid internship program here in my adopted city of Cuenca, Ecuador. There are 4 universities here, each with computer science graduates every year but not a lot of local job opportunities for young developers without experience. I can use the work streams from the repos I maintain, and the sponshorship money you provide, to offer positions that introduce new developers to professional engineering practices they'll need for the rest of their lives, while increasing the amount of work done on the repos you use (and possibly increasing the number of repos I can scale across)

Select- I'll run a workshop for your team
If you've got a topic related to a repo I maintain, I can run a workshop for your whole team
The general structure would be a repository we share, that tackles the topic of interest from a fundamental knowledge perspective, starting at the upstream documentation, working through environment setup, and finishing with something that you can run and interact with.
