Research realtime updates

Rachel and I use faire all the time to share grocery list and stuff, but if we are both in the grocery store checking off items it doesn't show to the other person unless they refresh the page. I think we can use some kind of websockets approach, but I understand that it will likely be a medium to large sized undertaking. Let's use this task to gather an idea of what might be required in order to make this happen, including if it means creating prototypes and proof of concepts.
