There is a solid scientific support for canvas (sozi like) presentations to be superior over "slideware" (deck orientated presentations like powerpoint).
I found this comprehensive an detailed paper to be a good starting point. It is about user interfaces in general, but focus on presentation tools a lot.
Main message for Sozi might be: Prezi was not the first! :-)

My personal conclusion: Canvas presentations are easy to follow and more memorable to the audience - but also a lot more costly to create.
