Getting xkbcommon: ERROR when running hello_world.py

I am getting the following error when trying to run the "hello_world.py" example from the "examples" folder.

xkbcommon: ERROR: failed to add default include path /usr/share/X11/xkb
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

When running the code one line by one line in REPL, I see that the error is thrown when the following line is run:

 reader = map2.Reader()

I am not sure how to resolve this... Any help?

(Note: I am running the code in a virtual environment venv)

My system information:
OS: NixOS
Processor: Intel 12th gen
RAM: 12gb
python version: Python 3.11.9
