Very useful. Thank you for this writeup.

One thing that I was looking for was whether the api creation / deployment of lambda could be automated, and it looks like it can via the AWS CLI. Obviously, it's easier via the UI for the first time / as a tutorial.

Good write-up. I liked your clear explanation of AWS lambda usefulness.
The thing to note is, the traditional way of having the API end-point with the web service running on a server is now abstracted away and provided to you by Amazon.
