<div class="paragraph"><p>In order to test the XDS component of the iCARDEA platfrom it is
assumed that you have made a proper installation of it as described in
the <a href="INSTALL.html">INSTALL</a> file. We now assume that you have it
running in the <em>localhost</em> <span class="footnote"><br />[In the following discussion all
links etc. use the <em>localhost</em> but of course you can use the host
machine’s IP address to access it from elsewhere]<br /></span>:</p></div>

functionality, the endpoints etc.</p></div>

<h2 id="_using_the_xds_toolkit_gui">Using the XDS Toolkit GUI</h2>

<div class="paragraph"><p>In order to test the isntallation and part of the functionality of the
XDS server, the
<a href="http://ihewiki.wustl.edu/wiki/index.php/XDS_Main_Page#XDS_Toolkit_GUI">Graphical
XDS Toolkit</a> can be used. This is a <em>war</em> that it should be copied
into the webapps directory of a local servlet container
(e.g. Tomcat). You can find it at <em>tools_resources</em> folder of the
iCARDEA SVN repository (the current version is 2.135).</p></div>
<div class="paragraph"><p>After you copy it in the <em>webapps</em> folder of the Tomcat installation
and start the container (in port 8080, I presume), you can access it at

<td class="content">In my first attempt to use the XDS Toolkit GUI I used a
Tomcat container that was installed in the <tt>C:\Program
Files\Apache…</tt> folder, and I was getting validation errors on the
tests because it seems that the toolkit was not able to handle <em>space</em>
characters in the installation folder when it was looking for some XML
schema files. When I installed Tomcat (and the Toolkit) in a
<tt>D:\apache-tomcat...</tt> (i.e. in a folder with no spaces in its name)
everything worked fine.</td>
