How does this line of code work?

I've been going through the code and stumbled upon this line here

nextron/examples/_template/ts/main/background.ts

Line 22 in f268182

await mainWindow.loadURL('app://./home.html');

I tried this in my codebase (not nextron), but the app:// protocol just loads about:blank for me. I couldn't find a reference for this anywhere in the electron docs. Can someone help me out here?
