Problem Statement
LecturePulse currently focuses on collecting student feedback, but it does not encourage collaborative learning during lectures. Many active learning classrooms use short peer discussions to reinforce concepts, allowing students to explain ideas to one another before continuing the lecture.
Proposed Solution
Introduce a Pair Discussion Prompt feature that enables teachers to launch a short discussion activity during an ongoing lecture.
When activated, students receive a discussion prompt along with a countdown timer (for example, 2–5 minutes). After the timer ends, students can anonymously submit whether the discussion helped improve their understanding.
Teacher capabilities include:
- Create a discussion prompt
- Set a discussion duration
- Start or end the discussion
- View participation and post-discussion understanding levels
Student flow:
- Receive the discussion question
- Discuss with a nearby classmate or group
- Submit whether the discussion clarified the concept
This feature promotes active learning while preserving LecturePulse's lightweight and anonymous experience.
Alternative Approaches
Students can already submit comments individually, but peer discussion encourages collaborative problem-solving and concept reinforcement. It also gives teachers immediate insight into whether collaborative learning improved understanding before moving to the next topic.
