Debug log ID

RY3Z49M8-refs-euc/6.7.263-7

What happened?

When I type a note manually:

  • While inserting the note, if I stop typing for about a second, the note blinks one to three times. (And the initial part of the text of the note is then shown in the item.)

  • When that happens, focus on the note is lost because and if I continue typing nothing is entered. I need to use the mouse to focus on the note again. This is not a window manager issue (and this happens in the seven window managers I've tested): focus remains in the Zotero window, but not in the note pane (or maybe it remains in the note, but somehow typing does not insert characters in the note).

  • If I "Edit in a separate window", then focus is not lost (i.e., I can continue typing without refocusing in the note), but the blinking is present.

The above two behaviors happen both when inserting new notes and when adding/modifying an existing note.

I am attaching two videos that illustrate the issue. I am running Linux, with XMonad as window manager, though I also see the issue with the following window managers: xfce4, fvwm, i3, herbstluftwm, bspwn, and stumpwm. I see this on two different machines. Zotero version: 7.0.11 (though I am sure I've observed this with 7.0.10 and 7.0.9 and most likely also other versions before).

I can narrow this down to Better BibTex because if in Tools -> Plugin "Manage your plugins" I disable Better BibTex this problem does not happen.

(For completeness: I originally reported this in the Zotero forums, until I realized it was a problem with some plugin: https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/120666/zotero-7-inserting-notes-causes-stutters-blinks-and-moves-focus ).

I get a "Page not found" when trying to access test build 7.0.5.7587

Builds expire because I will usually have fixed other things after a while. A new build will drop momentarily

Thanks, but the problem remains as in the original report: nothing seems to have changed. Here is a new debug log ID: B8GWF5VW-euc/7.0.5.7637

I have the same issue (also running Linux). I can post a debug log as well, if that's helpful.

I still need to tool BBT for logging.

I haven't forgotten about this, trust me, just a lot on my plate the past month

Solved. Thanks! (And only now I realize this was already reported in #3108 ; sorry for having opened a new issue ---I searched for similar ones before opening a new one, but obviously not very well).

No problem. I prefer to have duplicates over conflated issues.

The problems I reported are solved. I guess we can close?

Thanks for the feedback! Just so you know, GitHub doesn't let me control who can close issues, and @retorquere likes to leave bug reports and enhancements open as a nudge to merge them into the next release.
