Open finance of the foundation #156
Comments
This is a great idea and it would be great to figure out how we can enable more of this soon. We are publishing our first financial annual report soon, however I'm curious as to how we can further that openness! |
@2045, I'd love to schedule a community call about our finances after we publish our annual report (so that everyone has access to the same information). We currently plan to publish our annual report in March, so depending on the timing, the March or April topic could easily be our finances. @demkodo, would you be willing to be our guest presenter for this? |
We plan our community calls on the blog repo, so I'm going to transfer this issue. |
@ElenaFdR let's aim for April in any case to have some leeway. But, not sure what there is to present, as open finance (annual reports that show everything pertaining to finance) is common and normal, especially for ANBI's. The document will be self-explanatory and available online, as with all annual reports. A dedicated call to talk about finance seems a bit much at this moment, also looking at current sources of $ :) |
This issue could also be expanded to not only include passive reporting of finances, but also active engagement in developing the financial model. @felixfaassen pointed me to work done by Open Collective on the development of their financial model - see 1, 2, 3. Might be a great example to reflect on, among others. |

As an open foundation, embracing working fully open, it might be wise to open up regarding the finance position of the foundation. For example: yearly figures (balance sheet), therefore the community can see the financial building blocks of the foundation apart from all the technical and service products.
One shot further: by opening up on this subject it might trigger new opportunities, involvements, such as contributions for certain projects and so forth.
This might be a subject for a future community call?
